Roughout Ranch’s vision is to give at-risk youth safe and meaningful ranch experiences that inspire, motivate and enrich the physical, mental and social health that furthers their future development. Horses teach children critical traits, including perseverance, empathy, responsible risk-taking, confidence, and self-control.
Roughout Ranch Foundation (Roughout Ranch) addresses a persistent problem facing Shasta County which is the shortage of opportunities for vulnerable and underserved populations (children and special needs community). Through life skills and Equine-Assisted Activities (EAA), such as caring for horses in a safe and enriching space, participants learn valuable skills that set them up for future success. The ranch was developed in 1973 and will contribute to the county's needs and be a center for community events, life skills programs, mentoring and equestrian services.
