2015 Shasta Yama Festival Regeneration

Taiko Drumming, Dance, Music at the base of Mt. Shasta, CA

At the ShastaYama Taiko Festival in Northern California, the sound of Japanese drums combines with Mount Shasta and nature to heighten the experience for both audience and performers, creating magical moments of inspiration, music, and celebration. ShastaYama 2015 - Taiko Regeneration, will celebrate "now" and "next" generation taiko artists and present exciting new ways of performing taiko with modern and world influences. ShastaYama 2015 will take place in the Mt. Shasta, California on Saturday, August 1, 2015, 6pm. The award winning TAIKOPROJECT from Los Angeles will be the featured guest. Recognized as a leading "now" generation taiko group, TAIKOPROJECT has become the highest-profile ensemble, appearing on the Academy Awards, the Grammy Awards, NBC's "The Voice," the Do Something Awards, The X-Factor, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Conan, and the iHeartRadio Music Festival. They became the first Ameican taiko group to be awarded First Place at the Tokyo International Taiko Contest in 2005, topping all the Japanese groups at the competition. Favorite guests and Portland artists, Michelle Fujii and Toru Watanabe, will again add a touch of elegance to Shasta Taiko's ShastaYama's performance. The duo will also present UNIT SOUZOU which explores their innovative fusion of taiko, dance, and theater. Shasta Taiko and ShastaYama founders, Russel Baba and Jeanne Mercer, will perform new works for taiko, winds, and bass with their ensemble, TADAIMA (I'm home, I'm here). Their son and TAIKOPROJECT's Artistic Director Masato Baba and bassist Gary Fitzgerald from Los Angeles, round out the jazz influenced quartet. TAIKOPROJECT's youth ensemble, Kitsune Taiko, comprised of Junior High and High School students, will also appear at the 2015 summer evening concert at the base of Mount Shasta. Shasta Taiko from the community of Mount Shasta will open the evening's taiko fesitval at 6 pm. Shasta Taiko is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the development of taiko, and its ShastaYama Festival stimulates that growth by encouraging original works whole honoring the traditions. ShastaYama 2015 - Saturday, August 1, 6 pm at Mount Shasta's Shastice Park - 800 Rockfellow Drive. Gate opens at 5 pm. Food and refreshments will be available.
